Thai papaya salad consists of grated raw papaya,cucumbers,tomato.This salad is extremely refreshing and crunchy.A perfect change to palate from regular salads.You can find the recipe of this delicious salad below.
For salad
1 cup – Raw papaya (greated)
1 small – Tomato (cut into strips)
1 small – Cucumber (cut into strips)
1-2 – Red chilies (finely chopped)
For dressing
3 – Garlic cloves (minced)
1 TBSP – Soya sauce
Salt to taste
1 TBSP – Sugar OR Jaggery powder
Juice – Half lemon
2 TBSP – Peanuts (roasted)
Method
For dressing
Put all the ingredients of dressing in a bowl and keep in the fridge so that the flavors infuse
Keep in the fridge for at least 15 minutes
For assembling the salad
The dressing needs to be mixed in the salad just before eating
Mix all the ingredients for salad in a bowl
Ideally add dressing to a portion which will be eaten or served.
NOTE
Let the sauce sit in the fridge for sometime.The longer it’s kept,the more the garlic will infuse the sauce and give it a amazing flavour
You can also add various vegetables to make the salad according to your liking.Like onions,spring onions,capcicum or peppers
Serve chilled, and enjoy a refreshing, healthy salad that’s bursting with vibrant flavors and textures.
Salad is very important when you are looking for healthy options. But people like me suffer from severe sulphur allergies and cannot eat raw stuff. I tend to modify my salads to a little cooked version. You can use the dressing for any variety of vegetables or mix it with sauteed vegetables.
Chinese salad
Dressing
Half cup water
One tablespoon of sugar
One teaspoon vinegar
One teaspoon of corn flour
Salt and pepper to taste
One teaspoon of tomato sauce
Half tablespoon of Worcester sauce (you can add soya sauce)
chili flakes to taste or even chilly sauce
Method for Dressing
Mix all this in a pan and give it 3-4 boils stirring constantly till it is thick
Let it cool and keep in a bottle.
Mix in vegetables
Ingredients for Salad
One cucumber Chopped
One-fourth Cup Carrot Chopped (optional)
One-fourth cup of Beans chopped (optional)
Half a cup of boiled noodles
One or two Spring onions Chopped
A few nuts
green chilly strips
one cup of shredded cabbage
Method
Par boil Carrot and beans if using
Mix the dressing in all the vegetables
Note– People like me who cannot eat raw vegetables will sauté cabbage, spring onions and bell peppers and mix them in the dressing. The recipe shown is my version where you sauté the vegetables.

Eating Salad is the most convenient and easy habit that one can adopt in today’s health conscious environment. Restaurants offer special salads in their appetizer menu and there are cafes which cater for sandwiches and salad. A salad is cool, crunchy and fun to eat and has lots of textures in it. You can customize them to include the fruits and vegetables that appeal to you the most or whatever is in season or in hand.
This one is simple salad with rice and creates a wholesome meal. It is a favorite in our house.
Ingredients
1 cup boiled rice (1/3 rd cup raw rice). It could be any rice that you eat brown or white
1 capsicum chopped
½ cup Mixed bell peppers chopped
½ cup chopped and boiled carrot
1 spring onion or normal onion finely chopped
Few mint and coriander leaves
1 cup finely chopped cabbage and better to take it out from hot water once
½ cup boiled chickpeas
1 bread slice cut and fried or toasted in square pieces
Few nuts of your choice
Cheese for garnishing
For the dressing
½ Tbsp vinegar. If you have use Balsamic vinegar otherwise any vinegar is okay
5 Tbsp Olive oil
Salt and white pepper to taste
¼ tsp mustard powder
Pinch of sugar
1 ground garlic
2 tbsp Tomato ketchup
Method
Mix all the ingredients required for dressing
Beat for a minute and set aside
Mix all the main ingredients except bread and cheese
You can serve it on platter or on a bed of lettuce leaves or a jelly mold
Sprinkle the dressing and garnish with bread and cheese
There is no hard and fast rule you can mix it in the salad itself.
Variations- Pl use any kind of vegetables like corn, red cabbage or blanched beans..etc whatever your family likes.
Salad gives us lot of fiber, helps us to cut calories and give us more fulfilling meal. You can also choose different kinds of dressings as per your palate.
